Youth Group

In an inspiring and impactful journey, the youth of Nottingham Salvation Outreach embarked on a meaningful trip to Poland and Slovakia. This special youth day out, which combined historical education, spiritual reflection, and adventurous activities, was an unforgettable experience that deepened their understanding of history, faith, and the importance of standing up for justice in today’s world.

Part 1: Visit to Auschwitz – Reflecting on History and Faith

The first leg of the trip took the youth to Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi concentration camp in Poland. The visit was both sobering and educational, as the group was given a guided tour of the camp, where they learned about the horrific persecution of the Jewish people during World War II. The experience was designed not only to educate the youth about the atrocities of the Holocaust but also to reflect on the importance of standing against oppression, injustice, and hatred in all its forms.

As they walked through the barracks, the crematoriums, and the gas chambers, the youth were confronted with the stark realities of human cruelty, yet also inspired to reflect on the resilience of the human spirit. The visit was a powerful reminder of the need to remember the past so that future generations can ensure such horrors are never repeated.

The church leaders guided discussions throughout the visit, connecting the lessons of history to the teachings of the Bible. The youth explored themes of persecution, suffering, and the Christian call to love, forgive, and stand for justice. They reflected on scriptures such as Matthew 25:40 (“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”) and Romans 12:21 (“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”), emphasizing the importance of empathy, compassion, and advocacy for those who are marginalized and oppressed.

This visit was not only an educational experience but also a deeply spiritual one. The youth were able to see the intersection of faith and history, gaining a stronger understanding of how the Christian faith calls us to actively fight against hatred and persecution in our world today.

Part 2: Exploring Slovakia – Adventure and Team Building

After the reflective experience in Poland, the youth travelled to Slovakia, where they participated in a range of exciting and physically engaging activities. The time spent in Slovakia provided an opportunity for the group to bond, build teamwork, and experience the beauty of God’s creation through outdoor adventures.

One of the highlights of this portion of the trip was a hiking expedition through the breathtaking landscapes of Slovakia’s mountains. The youth had the opportunity to enjoy nature’s wonders while developing their endurance and teamwork skills. Hiking through forests, up hills, and across rugged terrain, the group was challenged physically and mentally, but the shared experience brought them closer together.

Alongside the hiking, they participated in team-building exercises, which included various outdoor games and challenges designed to foster collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership. These activities encouraged the youth to support each other, communicate effectively, and learn how to work together as a group to overcome obstacles. The team-building exercises were a reminder of the importance of unity, both within the church community and in their wider relationships.

The time spent in nature also provided space for reflection and spiritual growth. The youth had opportunities to pause and reflect on the lessons learned from their visit to Auschwitz, as well as how they could apply these lessons in their daily lives. Bible studies and devotionals were incorporated into the outdoor activities, allowing the youth to connect their experiences with God’s word and discover how they could embody Christ’s teachings in their actions and attitudes.

Part 3: A Moment of Unity and Spiritual Growth

Throughout the entire trip, the youth were immersed in opportunities for spiritual growth and community building. From the quiet moments of reflection at Auschwitz to the laughter and teamwork during hiking and outdoor challenges, the trip created lasting memories and strengthened the faith of each participant.

The leaders of Nottingham Salvation Outreach emphasized the importance of learning from the past, living with compassion in the present, and actively engaging with the world in ways that reflect Christ’s love. The youth were encouraged to think critically about the issues of injustice and oppression they encounter in their own lives and how they could be agents of change in their communities, standing up for the marginalized and oppressed.

The trip was also an opportunity for the youth to strengthen their relationships with one another. Through shared experiences—whether in moments of quiet reflection or in the midst of laughter and adventure—they built friendships that will last far beyond the trip itself.

A Great Success for the Church

Overall, the trip to Poland and Slovakia was a great success for Nottingham Salvation Outreach, providing the youth with a transformative experience that combined historical education, spiritual reflection, and physical adventure. It was an opportunity for the youth to grow in their faith, deepen their understanding of history, and develop stronger bonds with one another.

The trip served as a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering history, standing for justice, and living out our faith with love, compassion, and courage. The experiences and lessons learned during this youth day out will continue to resonate in the lives of the participants, encouraging them to walk boldly in their faith and to make a positive impact in the world.

The church leaders expressed gratitude for the opportunity to guide the youth on this enriching journey, and are already looking forward to the next opportunity for the youth to gather, grow, and serve together. This trip was a testament to the importance of investing in the spiritual and personal development of the younger generation, and it was clear that it was an experience that would shape their lives for years to come.
